Can't wait for Christmas

Normally, for some reason, I am quite the hater of Christmas. Maybe not hate, thats perhaps a bit too strong. I mean how can you compeltely hate a day where you get gifts and eat all day?

Light displays set up in Tokyo at Christmas
I don't know! But somehow I have grown a strong disliking to Christmas, or at the least Christmas at home with the family. I think this is pretty evident by the fact that I have volunteered to work Christmas day the last two years at the Hyatt Hotel Canberra. I would say though, if you were to work Christmas then my job was the best you could do! On bell at the hotel, you stand there and greet people for 8 hours and take photos and bounce around being generally joyfull!

Oh and you know, you also get paid like triple time, so that makes it a very generous Christmas Day!

This year I won't be working though....this year on the 13th of December I will be jumping on a plane and running away to Singapore and then TOKYO for Christmas and New Year's!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me here you say WOOHOO!!! Could Japan be the best place in the world to celebrate Christmas? All pretty but with no real meaning behind it? Perhaps for me!

Tokyo Disney Land at Christmas!

For some reason I find Christmas very stressful. My parents usually go nuts, especially if for any reason we are having people at our house. And I know it sounds ridiculously selfish, but my mother always manages to miss with the present mark by huge margin....I never really ask for much, but I do always tell her the few things I would like, but somehow they never make it to the Santa pack and then there's all these random things which I will never use, and I think she would like more than me....
However I do have to give her credit, last year she did get me a huge amount of costume books, but then forgot the one tiny thing I asked her for :p

This year my parents will also be going overseas, leaving on Chirtmas day. My Dad won a huge amount of frequent flyers randomly through AMEX and so he's taking her on a surprise trip to Europe (none of us actually know where they are going for a month)

OK OK so enough of that. Tokyo at Christmas. From what i've been reading, is all about 3 things.
Lighting displays, KFC and Strawberry shortcake.

KFC christmas chicken
hehe I'll tell him what id like for Christmas!
Sound like something I could get used too. Christmas period is meant to be the equivelant of the best Valentines day a couple could think of, and people pre order KFC for Christmas eve! Apparently there are the longest lines, and they dress up the Kernal as Santa haha! I guess he has the looks for it!

Oh and who am I going with you might ask? My ex boyfriend! He now lives in another city but we think we will make an ace travelling team. He is super knowledgable about EVERYTHING because he did a history and politicts degree...and then I am really good at organising things and doing itineries and budgets and such things. I am also pretty stingy so im good at finding things cheap hehe.

We will be staying in 3 Hyatt's while we are overseas, using the free nights I've accumulated while working.

Also he just started his own blog! Quite different to mine clearly, head over and have a read of his first post!

Otakufest 2012!

Impact Comics in Canberra had their Annual OTAKUFEST celebration on Friday.
My friend and I went along wearing cosplay costumes that I had made us earlier this year for our 'Turning Japanese' themed 21st.
The last two years we have gone I have made us costumes, but this year because of the whole working full time thing, as well as making the wedding dress, no such time was avaliable.

Below are our cosplays!

My friend was Misato Katsuragi, from Neon Genesis Evangellion, and I went as Kirsten Dunst as Akihabara Majokko Princess!
WATCH THIS VIDEO!! ITS AWESOME! haha well it had us in it, and its pretty well made too! We are just after the 2minute mark ^__^

Our friend went as Hei from Darker than Black

Free things I won for my costume!...wooo!

Before bedtime post

Just some thoughts before bed time....

Firstly. A big WOOHOO to the fact that I have 10....THATS RIGHT

10
FOLLOWERS!

So thank you to all of you double digit followers.
(and to the one person who I know is email subsribed ;)

Secondly. I am so close to being done with this wedding dress I can taste my sewing freedom!!

Thirdly. I thought people who had left comments were going back and deleting them, which was making me very upset that someone would even bother to do that.
However turns out that some were going to spam?
Can anyone shed some light on why that would happen?

Fourthly. Tomorrow is FRIDAY. But most importantly it is OTAKUFEST, at the local comic book store where I will be dressing up in cosplay and hopefully winning some sweet sweet free anime!

Stay tuned for more piccies!!

To all my lovely follows, and everyone else on the bloggersphere and interwebz, goodnight for now, and enjoy your Friday!
....or what ever other day it may be due to time zone differences

isnt this a nice pic

Somethings to look forward too!

So....I've been hella busy! The whole wedding dress making thing. Not only fills a lot of my time at the moment, as I need to have it done in about a week; but it also fills my thoughts, pretty much constantly. Every night when I go to bed I lie there for at least 20 minutes thinking about it all. So it's a bit stressful.

So I figured I'd just jump on a put together a list of things I'm really looking forward to at the moment.

Number 1
Finishing this wedding dress! Wedding date is the 10 November. The bodice is now completely finished with all the lace, and ACTUALLY FITS like perfectly! *phewph* that ones been a long time coming! Half of the skirt is done, turns out 9m of chiffon was only half the amount of fabric I would need for the skirt. I have never done a fully chiffon skirt, next time i'll no to over estimate, or double what I think I will need!!

Here are some pics of the lace work!

Number 2
Making my dress for the wedding! This is my fabric that I finally found and bought from E&M Greenfield, the poly crepe was $3.50 a meter hehehe awesome!!!

I ended up coming to the conclusion, that I needed to use a comercial pattern because I definately will not have the time to drape one like I was hoping.

Number 3
Making my hat/fascinator for the wedding as well!! The Gilded Bee is where I have bought this huge array of flowers that I want to make a headpiece with. Aren't they amazing? They are so fantastic for millinery and quite cheap as well which is really good and hard to find with nice little flowers!
Number 4
On the 1st of December is the Canberra Institue of Technology's Gradutating Fashion parade! Last year I modelled and did some machining for another one of the designers, this year I am also modelling for a designer, but I am also helping another one of the designers do some pattern making!! This will be super fun, and I met with her a week or so ago to go over her designs. We get along really well and Im excited to use some pattern making techniques that I wouldn't normally have a reason to use!

I modeled for devaki black last year, and here's a picture of her work from the parade! Can you pick me? hehe!
